My dad listens to AM radio all the time. I had thought of getting him the CCrane radio but due to a lot of bad reviews on Amazon, I'm looking for something else. Does anyone have any ideas on what would get the best portable AM receiver?
Thanks!

Actually, not sure about the reviews on it, but i have heard good reviews about the c.crane. nevertheless, i agree that teh GE super radio is awesome. however, one of mine - well after 2 years of use - the frequency lock doesn't work and it drifts like crazy.

my new favorites for AM and SW listening are a brand out of southern china called "degen" - they are pretty much making all the radios for everyone else now too. there are several good models. the bais cone that gets really good reception is the "DE1107" - in the US these radios are sometimes branded as "Kaito."

for example" the new Kaito KA1121: AM/FM/WX/SW +SSB Radio with Detachable MP3 Player & Recorder" this radio is difficult to learn, but awesome to use.

personally i use a radio shack verison of this radio: SANGEAN ATS818ACS SHORTWAVE RADIO.

it still allows for recording onto cassette. which i know is old fashioned, but i like it.

the other option is to buy an AM antenna. there are a few on the market. some sit next to the radio, others plug in. c.crane does sell these as well. so check it out.

Technically, you do not ought to deliver a present. this isn't a wedding ceremony reception, that's a married couple throwing a celebration. yet in case you want to grant her something, at the prompt are not making it a touch one present. She'll probable be getting showered in some months, besides. playstation - he's right here illegally?!? perchance the activities must be positioned on carry thinking there's a touch one on the way and the most he can get for a activity is mowing a persons' backyard. impressive.

I use a GE Superadio III. Excellent long distance (DX) reception. A much better value than the CCrane. I believe now RCA is making them.

If Dad really needs to "pull-in" AM stations from afar, you could also get him a device called Select-A-Tenna in addition.
