OK, so I've been thinking about getting satellite radio. I think I'm gonna go with Sirius, but I don't know if i should pay the five hundred dollar lifetime fee because of the company's money troubles. Plus, if you want to upgrade to another radio do you have to start another lifetime subscription?

I'm a lifetime subscriber, but I suggest you read the T&C before you decide. "Lifetime Subscription" is tied to your receiver, not you. You can tranfer your "Lifetime" status up to 3 times at a cost of $75 each time you transfer the agreement to a new receiver.

Here are the most important points for a Lifetime Subscriber outlined in the T&C:

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

4. Right to Transfer a Subscription: Satellite Radio Service Subscriptions (other than lifetime Subscriptions) are transferable from one Receiver to another. A LIFETIME SATELLITE RADIO SUBSCRIPTION (WHICH IS A SUBSCRIPTION THAT CONTINUES FOR THE LIFE OF THE RECEIVER) IS NOT TRANSFERABLE IF IT IS ASSOCIATED WITH A RECEIVER INSTALLED BY AN AUTOMAKER OR AN AUTOMOTIVE DEALER IN A VEHICLE, EXCEPT IN THE EVENT THE ORIGINAL RECEIVER ASSOCIATED WITH THAT LIFETIME SATELLITE RADIO SUBSCRIPTION IS STOLEN, ACCIDENTALLY DAMAGED OR, IN OUR SOLE DISCRETION, IS DEFECTIVE. A LIFETIME SATELLITE RADIO SUBSCRIPTION ASSOCIATED WITH A HOME, PORTABLE OR PLUG & PLAY RECEIVER IS TRANSFERABLE FROM ONE RECEIVER TO ANOTHER RECEIVER, UP TO A MAXIMUM OF THREE TIMES. Permitted transfers of Satellite Radio Service Subscriptions are subject to a transfer fee, as set forth herein.

8. Administrative Fees: We will charge you one or more of the following fees, all of which are subject to change without notice:

* Transfer Fee: If you transfer a lifetime Satellite Radio Service Subscription from one Receiver to another or from one person to another you will be charged a transfer fee. The transfer fee is currently $75.00. SATELLITE RADIO SERVICE SUBSCRIPTIONS ARE TRANSFERABLE ONLY TO THE EXTENT PROVIDED FOR HEREIN. A LIFETIME SATELLITE RADIO SUBSCRIPTION IS NOT TRANSFERABLE IF IT IS ASSOCIATED WITH A RECEIVER INSTALLED BY AN AUTOMAKER OR AN AUTOMOTIVE DEALER IN A VEHICLE, EXCEPT IN THE EVENT THE ORIGINAL RECEIVER ASSOCIATED WITH THAT LIFETIME SATELLITE RADIO SUBSCRIPTION IS STOLEN, ACCIDENTALLY DAMAGED OR, IN OUR SOLE DISCRETION, IS DEFECTIVE. No transfer fee will be charged for the transfer of a lifetime Satellite Radio Subscription associated with a Receiver installed by an automaker or an automotive dealer if, in our sole discretion, the Receiver is defective.

Hope that helps you out.

I have been leery too because of the financial woes.

If you get a new radio, you may have to pay a $75 transfer fee, but not a new lifetime subscription. And you may only do this three times during your lifetime plan.

yeah you only want a subscription. that's fairly nicely worth it, I easily have sirius and this is astounding, i in no way pay interest to favourite radio anymore. it has a million song stations and comedy stations, football, information, kids song, etc
