Shortwave 1....... This is generally for reception at night time...... Shortwave radio stations come in better below 10 MHZ at night so search for stations at night time with SW1......

SW2 is generally for radio reception during the daytime..... These channels are generally above 9 or 10 MHZ....

The shortwave band is between 1700 KHZ (just above AM radio) and 30000 KHZ. (30MHZ)....

Reception varies across this whole frequency spectrum depending on whether its day or night..... That's why many Shortwave radios will have SW1 , SW2 and even more bands depending on how sophisticated the radio is....... Anyways --- SW is where international broadcasters are located.....

They are all around you. They are present just about anywhere you care to go, except for an fully enclosed metal box. Then you would be in what could be called a Faraday shield. To answer what I believe would be the crux of your question, get a wide band general coverage receiver. Read the label of the box the radio receiver comes in, it will tell you what radio frequency bands the radio is capable of receiving. You might even be able to find a service that puts such radio stations on the Internet.

SW2 is probably between 10 Mhz and 20 Mhz
