That running of the antenna depends on where you are. I'm in NYC and I don't need to run the antenna at all. I have the sportster boombox and it works fine with the antenna up just like on a regular radio on my desk. If you live in the boonies, you'd probably need to run it.
You also get free on-line usage with a subsription so you can keep your radio at home and listen anywhere (at work for me) with an internet connection through your PC.

If you want Sirius inside your home, then check out the link below. They offer several receivers to choose from. You will need an antenna placed outside for the best possible reception. You really did not specify on which type of receiver you wanted. They have several different receivers for several different applications.

Of course you can play it in your home. If you choose to use a receiver you will need to run an antenna just like you would in your car OR you can run the internet radio stream and hook your computer up to your stereo system. I do the latter and it works great.

Just be aware that in order to get good reception indoors, you probably need to run the antenna outside with a clear view of the sky.

They make a portable version called the Stilletto that you can use like an I-Pod. You can also buy them that you can remove from your car and play them in a boombox anywhere.
