I want to get an amateur radio license and getting into the hobby. I was thinking about getting this book:

http://www.amazon.com/Ham-Radio-License-Manual-Arrl/dp/0872590976/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1389485823&sr=8-1&keywords=ham+radio+book

Would this be a good book to get to help me pass the exam?

There are a lot of books, study guides, practice tests and materials available online to help you with your first exam (technician). Many amateur radio clubs conduct classes at no cost (you may need to buy a book to follow the instruction.) Why not give your local radio club a call?

In these classes, you are taught how to deal with relevant matters and/or where to look for correct information/instructions/directions. That is why it is good to attend an actual class, ask questions, and conduct some research on your own.

You can gain a lot of information from the online classes, practice exams, and study guides. This will help you pass the test, and hopefully learn many things along the way. Some "students" enjoy working and studying on his/her own, but don't be afraid to ask questions from people that have some experience.

It would be very good. Also use the various on line ham exams to practice. Try to understand rather than just memorizing the answers. This is a good one http://www.eham.net/exams/ but Google on line ham exams and you will find several. Most of us Hams are good about helping someone get into the hobby. If you don't know one, look for antennas in your neighborhood or call sign license plates on cars around work or home. Good luck and we'll be seeing you on the air.

Yes, it would.

I used both Ham Test Online and the ARRL book to help me get my license.

When you study, try to absorb the theory behind the answers and not just the answer.

73, and I'll see you on the radio.
