How can I get radio (AM/FM) reception in a building with a lot of flourescent lights?

I recently had all new flourescent lights installed in our building. Now the radio reception is poor (we have speakers througout the building). What would be the most effective way to improve reception?

The flourescent lights might be causing interference with the radio signals. You can move the radio further away from the fixtures, or replace the lights with ones that cause less interference.

The only way I can think of would be to install either a loop antenna or an external wire antenna that would run outside the building somewhat. It's very easy to do, but I'd have to see the back of the radio to know exactly what you'd need.
RF filters don't always work with flourescent lights, but they're worth a shot.

The cheapest way would be to try to remove the flourescent light bulbs from the fixtures that aren't really necessary. If you can place the radio in an area with no flourescent bulbs directly overhead, preferably near a window facing towards the direction of the nearest biggest city where most of the AM and FM radio stations are based, try that.
Also, talk to your I.T. Department. See if they can provide an extra computer that can connect to the Internet. Save a list of local radio stations in the Favorites/Bookmarks folder that offer free live streaming audio. Connect the speakers to the computer, and go to one of the radio stations' websites, and run their player.
If possible, look into satellite radio (XM or Sirius). Either can be connected to existing home/office theater systems, and even offer special subscriptions and services for businesses, including using XM or Sirius radio as "hold music" on the phone system.

Give the folks at radio shack a call. I had the same problem and there is a filter you can get that works wonders. I cannot remember what it is called because it has been a couple of years ago since I got one. Good luck.

A rooftop antenna would greatly improve your FM reception.
AM interference is a tougher nut to crack; it is an older technology that doesn't protect against noise.
