Great idea. the links to the ARRL suggested by others are a great start. Look around your neighborhood for big antennas. Look for cars with distinctive Ham radio plates, usually a call sign with one or two letters followed by a number and a couple of more letters. Many of those cars will have extra antennas. Let the folks know that have these cars/antennas etc. know you are interested. Ask them about local clubs and attend the meetings. If you see someone operating what you think is a ham radio, ask them. Most hams are proud to show off their gear and love to talk about the hobby. Above all don't get discouraged. Anyone can become a ham and there are so many facets to our hobby your sure to find one or more that will interest you. Welcome.

The American Radio Relay League arrl.org can meet all your study guide (assuming you are in the US) needs and help you find a local volunteer examiner (VE) to administer your license exam.
